Bitlocker - tying upgrade TPM to 2.0

Question

Monday, March 13, 2017 12:50 PM

Hi all

I am trying to upgrade TPM to 2.0 but receive the following error message...

Error: The System TPM Query Failed, Aborting

I'm trying to update the TPM because I can't turn on the bitlocker on my C disk. (on D disk it was ok)

When I check tpm.msc it says I don't have a compatible TPM installed.

I have a windows 10 enterprise (DELL).

Can anyone help me?

Hi Pedro.

What computer model is yours?

Did you locate the TPM settings in the BIOS and activate it?

Dell Inspiron 5558

I didn't find any TMP configuration in the BIOS.

I found this but I don't know if it helps.

Apparently DELL in ignoring TPM.

Hi Pedro,

Based on your screenshot, please select "Activate" option to enable the TPM.

In addition, TPM 1.2 is also fine if you want to use BitLocker. Of course, TPM 2.0 is better.

Here is a guide that how to upgrade TPM for you from Dell:

Not yet. There is no TMP configuration on my BIOS.

So if I cannot use BitLocker what encryption will I use?

You can use bitlocker without a TPM. That would mean you will have to enter a password on each system start. See https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6229/how-to-use-bitlocker-on-drives-without-tpm/ for instructions.
