Question

We have built a new 3-node Hyper-V Server 2019 cluster with shared SAS connected storage.
Guests servers are running fine (Windows 2019 Standard), but I am unable to get the Failover Cluster Manager to monitor the guest services.
Error message is "Unable to retrieve the list of services from the virtual machine XXXXX."
- Guests, hosts and Failover Cluster are int he same subnet
- All are in the same Active Directory
- I'm using a domain admin account
- Virtual Machine Monitoring firewall rule is enabled
Any ideas what I'm missing to get this working?

Thank you, stopping a restarting the VMM service has now allowed me to browse the services.
Oddly all the hosts were patched/rebooted yesterday so wonder why this service restart worked?

Have you run the cluster validation wizard on the environment? It may show a configuration issue that needs to be resolved.

Hi ,
Just want to confirm the current situations.
As Tim said , please run the cluster validation wizard and then share the error message with us.
Best Regards,

Hi,
Yes, cluster validation wizard shows everything is fine.
Thanks.

Have you tried stopping/starting the VMM service from the Hyper-V management console? This does not impact the running of the VMs, but it is the VM management service. Sometimes stopping/starting that corrects management issues.
Cluster validation wizard will show errors, warnings, and information. Errors must be fixed. Warnings must be investigated. I can't tell from your statement that "everything is fine" means that you did not get any errors, or you did not get any errors or warnings. Do not assume that no errors means everything is fine.

VMM gets 'lost' from time to time. This has been a known 'resolution' to management issues from day 1. Never heard an explanation as to why the service get lost from time to time. It is random, so that fact that you applied patches and rebooted had no bearing on the issue.
