Question

Hi. We have an client who every few days cannot access their website internally. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does the only way for them to gain access again is to restart the DNS Server service on their server. They run a SBS 2008 server with Win 7 (32bit) clients.
If I do an NSLOOKUP whilst they can't get access I can see the SBS server, but get no see no non-authoritative answer back. It's obviously some rouge DNS issue but does anyone know what might randomly cause the drop, and what the solution may be?
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
sounds that the website name internal is the same as external.
Please creaste an A record named "www" in the DNS forward lookup zone pointing to the internal ip address of the webserver.

Like Meinolf said, seems that your website internal name is the same of the external one.
You can create a new primary zone for your Website (different from the external one) named www.website.com as an example and then create a A record (empty one) for your web server.
Like that you will be sure that there is no conflits.

SkyValley,
In addition to Meinolf's and MrX's suggestions, just as an FYI, you have what some refer to as a "Split Zone." You may want to take a look at the following to understand how this all works:
Split Zone or no Split Zone - Can't Access Internal Website with External Name
http://msmvps.com/blogs/acefekay/archive/2009/09/04/split-zone-or-no-split-zone-can-t-access-internal-website-with-external-name.aspx
You will also want to make sure that the DNS IP entries on the SBS server are only the SBS server IP address and not an external (such as an ISP or the router's IP) in NIC properties. This is important for AD functionality. You can configure the ISP's DNS address as a Forwarder in DNS properties, forwarders tab.

Will give that a go. Thank you for your response. I will let you know if that resolves the issue (and mark as answered if it does) :)

If you can access it by name successfully, then it is not a name resolution problem, which this thread addresses. The problem, based on your description, appears to be a network connectivity (router, ISP, etc) or a webserver problem.
Without specific configuration information, such as ipconfig /all, event log errors, and the website name, it will be dufficult to pinpoint.
I also suggest to start a new thread with this information, since this thread deals with a different issue.
