"No Internet" [yellow triangle with exclamation point"

Question

Monday, April 29, 2019 2:11 PM

What does that little yellow triangle with the exclamation point indicate? It shows up in the system tray (on the taskbar) on top of the Network icon.  If you hover over it, it will say "no internet" BUT the machine clearly has internet access.  What is Windows trying to do that makes it think it has no internet access?  And is there any downstream impact if we dont let Windows have what it wants? (I suspect we are blocking a particular website).

Hi,

Don't worry. It is normal behavior that blocking a particular website.

Many times, the problem appears because of wrong icon mapping. It is not related to network connection.

Hello,

Please run Network Adapter troubleshooter from Settings app > Update & security > Troubleshoot. See if this helps.

If issue still persists, try Network Reset:

Hope this helps!

Thank you.  I more interested in understanding what the exclamation mark is checking for that makes it think there is an issue.  Because it's possible that what it is looking for, we have purposedly prevented.  Do you know what checks that it does before it determines to show the yellow exclamation mark?  What is is testing for?
