Question

We recently started a major push to get migrated to Windows 10. We're about a quarter of the way done, with about 750 machines now running 10.
Unfortunately, I just uncovered an odd problem while trying to copy a simple web shortcut to the public desktop, which is that it won't show up on the user's desktop unless "show hidden files and folders" is selected in view options.
It went out to Windows 7 and 10 users alike, and works just fine for Windows 7 users. In fact, in cases where people have both a 7 and a 10 workstation, it works on 7 and not on 10.
I've poured over Group Policy, and don't see anything that seems to relate to this. Is there some change in how objects get redirected to the users desktop in Windows 10?

Hi,
In order to help you better, I would like to confirm with your Windows 10 version and OS build. You can view them by the following steps:
1. Press Win + R at the same time and type winver in the search box
2. Confirm with Windows version and OS build in the About Windows window
I did a test by the following steps on Windows 10 1803 (OS build 17134.285):
1. I copied a shortcut to C:\Users\Public\Desktop
2. Unchecked Hidden items in the view option
3. Checked Don’t show hidden files, folders, or drivers in the File Explorer Option
4. Switched a standard user to log in and I saw the shortcut on the desktop
Overall, I suggest that you update Windows 10 to the latest version to check if the issue still persists.
Hope these are helpful.
