Question

Saturday, November 17, 2012 8:25 AM

I am facing a limitation in SP2010. I have documented it here

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointgeneralprevious/thread/eb81833d-99b6-432c-8c05-058f9304bacf

Is this fixed in SP2013?

Greetings,

Much has changed about the Datasheet View in SharePoint 2013 - I suggest you take some time to research it.

To answer your question directly - yes you can copy and paste rows from Excel into a Datasheet view in SharePoint 2013 where one of the columns is a "People or Group" column (note that Datasheet view experience in 2010 vs. 2013 is quite different). I have tested this as I wanted to know the answer as well. During my test I tried the Account Name and Display name and both worked, for example "mydomain\clussier" and "Craig Lussier" both worked and resolved correctly when pasting multiple rows without issue.

When doing a copy/paste from Excel, when viewing your list's related Datasheet View, make sure that in the ribbon you have the List tab selected and click on the "Quick Edit" button in the "View Format" group. Otherwise, the bulk row copy/paste won't work the way it did in previous versions of SharePoint.

For full disclosure - the environment in which I tested this just so you know:

  • SharePoint 2013 Enterprise
  • Windows 8 Enterprise
  • Office 2013 Professional Plus, Excel 2013
  • This test was performed in a new SharePoint 2013 site collection, I created a list and created a Datasheet View
  • I have not tested this using a site collection using a "SharePoint 2010" visual experience in a SharePoint 2013 environment. I will do this at some stage when I get a chance.

I hope this helps,
