Removing the "Remember Me" option from Microsoft Remote Desktop app on Window 10 Pro

Question

Tuesday, November 6, 2018 2:39 PM

Hello All,

We would like to use Microsoft Remote Desktop app on our Windows 10 Pro (version 1803, build 17134.376) laptop to connect to Remote Desktop Gateway for users who travel to remote offices. We found the local group policy that prompts them for a username and password when using Microsoft Remote Desktop app. But, there is a “remember me” box that can be checked when logging in that if checked- defeats our goal of allowing different users to login. We can educate the end users to avoid clicking the "Remember me" box, but we prefer to take this option away from the user. Is there a way of- 1) making this option to “remember me” disappear from the login screen for Microsoft Remote Desktop app, or 2) configuring the local machine to disregard the "remember me" credentials even if it is accidentally selected? Please let us know at your convenience.

thank you,

Brian

Hi,

Thanks for your post in our forum.

As your description, you want to know if we can remove the option "remember me" in the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. If I misunderstood, please feel free to contact us.

Firstly, I am afraid that there is no option to remove the option because it is not a built-in app in windows.

And, try the following group policy to see if it helps. The setting will affect the Remote Desktop Connection and will make it cannot remember the password of the users. It could affect the Remote Desktop app to ignore the option "remember me".

The group policy path:

Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Connection Client

Do not allow passwords to be saved

Controls whether passwords can be saved on this computer from Remote Desktop Connection.

If you enable this setting the password saving checkbox in Remote Desktop Connection will be disabled and users will no longer be able to save passwords. When a user opens an RDP file using Remote Desktop Connection and saves his settings, any password that previously existed in the RDP file will be deleted.

If you disable this setting or leave it not configured, the user will be able to save passwords using Remote Desktop Connection.

Hope above information can help you.

Thanks again for your understanding and support.

Best Regards,

Otto Wang

Hello Otto,

We tried that and it did not help. The user can still select the remember me and it will then remember the user. We also tried the suggestion below and this did not resolve it either. Thanks for your help and suggestions. Hopefully we'll run across a solution soon.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and update.

It seems that the setting for the built-in RDC will not affect the Microsoft Remote Desktop app.

Please understand that it could have been out of the scope of our support.

So, I suggest you go to the Remote Desktop User Voice to post your feedback and to see if it helps.
