Question

Hello,
Whenever I click in a cell in Excel, it highlights the whole box with a thick black outline which remains on screen when I select other cells. When you bring up the screen to print and then exit out of the print window, the distorted display is gone. It has persisted across every Excel spreadsheet I have opened today. Does anyone know what is wrong or how to fix it?
Thank you!

Hi,
Do this line appear in a specific cell or random cells?
Do you try to check if this problem appear in safe model?
I suggest you open it in safe mode running the following command: Press Win + R, type " excel /safe" in the blank box, press Enter. If it works fine in safe mode, please check the add-ins in your excel and disable them.
Please provide more information about your problem and I'm glad to help you.

Sorry, it still won't let me upload a picture file, but I made my avatar the screenshot of what is wrong. It isn't random cells. It does it for every cell I click into. It leaves each one I have clicked outlined that way.

I have the same problem. Popped up about a week ago. Excel in safe mode has the problem as well. I removed office completely and reinstalled, without any difference.
The problem is that the tab and command sections start with black borders and backgrounds, when you scroll in the tab these black borders get pulled down in the view as well

Hi,
I would suggest two more troubleshooting actions:
close excel.
1. Go to your control panel --> devices and printers
try to change the current default printer to another one.
Open excel and check if the problem still there.
if not resolved..
2. Run windows in safe mode.
What about now? any change?
Come back and report.
