GPO for adding office trusted locations

Question

Wednesday, May 15, 2019 3:44 AM

Hi All,

We are a content serving application.

Users can download office files from our application and also we have integrated with WEBDAV for office files authoring inside the local office applications.

Now when our customers want to view the files using office 2016, the files are opened in a protected view because our domain and customer's domain (network) is different.  Our server url is like this abc-tenant1.company.com where tenant1 is one of the tenants for the application abc hosted on company.com.

I was thinking adding a GPO to add our server domain in office's trusted location can solve this problem ?. Do we have to add our domain *.company.com or we have to add the complete host url ? Also can this be done through GPO by IT administrators for all users in the company network.

Best Regards,

Saurav

Hi Saurav,

Did you mean you want to disable Protect View mode in Office?

If yes, you can go to File- Options- Trust center- Trust center settings...- Protected View- Uncheck all options:

GPO settings:

Protected View settings are specific to each application in Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint only)

Administrative templates- Microsoft Office 2016- Microsoft Product- Options- Security- Trust Center- Protected View

Please check if this method will help you.

Regards,

Emi Zhang

HI Emi,

Thanks for the reply.

Does this field support wildcard domains for e.g. can i give *.company.com as the domain ? and then all urls part of domain becomes whitelisted.

Also how can an internet url be added as a trusted location in a individual user's trust center settings ?

Best Regards,
Saurav
