Hello,
I would like to set up a kiosk using a touch screen monitor and a mini PC running Windows 10 Home. I would like to use Edge as browser. I do not need any further navigation capabilities; displaying one web page would be sufficient.
I found a quite good description Set up a kiosk on Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, or Education, but unfortunately it does not applies to Windows Home edition. I was also not able to find hints / best practices for how to use Edge in this context.
Any idea where I can get some further information?
Thanks & Best Regards

Hi,
Would you mind to see if this registry key works to block task manager on ctrl+alt+del screen? I have no Home computer, so I cannot sure it can work since it's group policy related.
Just try it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
- DisableTaskMgr = 1
Since you have Home computer, I can only provide you some workaround to do so.
If not, I have to say that's all I can help on this issue.
Thanks for your understanding.

Hello Kate,
Thanks for the reply and the hint how to block the task manager. It seems to work. The above mentioned tool is basically doing the same; it sets several registry entries for blocking the task manager, auto-login ...
Finally I created a shortcut starting the internet explorer in "kiosk-mode":
....\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe -k (url you want to autolaunch)
and copied it to the autostart folder ("... AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup")
This solution fits to my needs...
Thanks & Regrads

Unfortunately you can not set Kiosk mode for Windows 10 Home edition. It is eligible for a device running Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows 10 Education, Windows 10 Mobile, or Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise as a kiosk device.

Thanks for the reply. I guess you are referring to the 'assigned access feature' not available for Windows 10 Home edition.... But I am looking for some kind of best practices describing how to set up a kiosk by a list of settings, manually to be adjusted (e.g. disable Windows-Logo-key via registry, set PC into tablet mode, disable notifications ...)...

Hi,
I took some time to do the test to see if Custom User Interface can work for Store app, but it failed at last.

Would you mind to use IE as workaround in Home Edition??

Hi,
thanks for the response... The suggested guide is a great description how to establish IE (or another program) as a shell. Unfortunately it does not suggest how to lock-down the box. A user still has access to e.g the task manager and will also be able to get access to files & folders, able to reboot the machine, ...
That's the reason for asking 'How to set up a kiosk on Windows 10 Home'...
Windows 10 Pro offers the 'assigned access feature' but upgrading from Home to Pro will cause additional costs which I have to avoid...
Best Regards

The answer is pretty clear and the others have said it. If you want a Kiosk/Assigned Access scenario than you CANNOT use Windows 10 Home. There is no other answer.

Hello,
thanks for your clear statement. In the meantime I found a 'freeware tool' claiming to 'configure a Windows PC for the use as an interactive kiosk terminal'. I'll try it ...
Best Regards

If you want to lock down Windows 10 Home for a kiosk app, the best way I've found is to use a utility called secure lockdown. It does white listing and starts whatever homepage you've defined on bootup. It automatically locks out the Windows Desktop and any admin functions.
