RDP disconnect on wifi

Question

Monday, July 20, 2020 8:41 PM

Folks - my RDP session connects, then disconnects in 1-2 seconds if I connect via wifi (never on wired ethernet). I looked around and checked for wifi settings but couldn't find anything to help this

What can I check to make sure RDP over wifi stays connected. I am using native windows 10 supplicant to connect to wifi

Thanks

Hi ,

Sorry for the delay response.

In order to narrow the issue, please change a different WIFI network to do a test. If change to a different WiFi network and the issue still occurs. I would think the problem is related with your wireless driver. You might have a clean installation of wireless drivers.

If it still doesn't work, tracing and monitoring should be necessary if there is no specific event/error about the problem. However, analysis of network traffic is beyond our forum support level. So I would suggest you contact Microsoft Customer Support and Services where more in-depth investigation can be done so that you would get a more satisfying explanation and solution to this issue.

Hi ,

Based on my understanding, the RDP session will disconnect in 1-2 seconds when you connect via Wifi. It works fine when you connect via wired Ethernet. Is that right? Please feel free to let me know if my understanding is wrong.

Did you connected to a 802.1x wireless network with user authentication?

The problem is that 802.1x and RDP were not designed with each other in mind and the end result is that 802.1x is unable to determine the user's identity when coming in via RDP.

If Remote Desktop is a required service, to work around this issue, set the network authentication setting to User or computer authentication or Computer authentication.

Hi ,

Go to the properties of the wireless network. Click on the Advanced Settings > 802.1X settings > CHECK "Specify Authentication Mode" > "User or Computer Authentication"

As the picture below:

Hi ,

Please make sure WiFi driver has been updated to the latest version. If possible, could you please connect to a different WIFI network to narrow down the issue? Check if you still occur the same problem.

Candy
