There are multiple reasons this could be.

First lets start with the firewall on the server. To test you could just disable it and see if the client can then ping it. Or you could configure the ICMP rule.

As for remoting this needs to be configured on the server if you have not already done so. This can be done under the remoting properties. Right click my computer --> Properties --> on the left hand pane select Remote settings. In there you can configure allowing remote connections and who can RDP to the server.

If all of the above has been tested and you have a more complicated network you might want to speak to the Network guys and see if there is some Asymmetric routing going on.

Hi  Windows.Geek,

Agree with Random.

Since the server could ping clients successfully, that means there are routes for both directions.

When pinging the server, firewall on server may forbid the ping packets. To verify, we could disable the firewall on server temporarily. If we could ping successfully, we need to modify the rules to allow the packets.

To remote to the server successfully, the server should allow the client to connect.

Here are the steps to check:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click System.
  3. Click Remote Settings.
  4. On Remote tab, we could modify the settings.

Best Regards,

Leo

Hi,

Also check your Antivirus program on server, most of the times it also block ICMP traffic to come IN.
