RRAS - Internal Interface Not Available / Non-Operational

Question

Monday, July 23, 2007 5:06 PM

I had installed RRAS and chose the custom option. I ticked the VPN and lan routing boxes.

I was able to successfully establish a VPN connection with my server. Then at one point I lost all connection to the server.

Now when I try to connect it stays at the screen "Verifying User and Password" then after a few minutes it will try and reconnect.

The only thing I was able to notice is that the internal interface is "not Available / Non-Operational"

I have been searching up and down on the internet and have not been able to find an answer. I have included a picture, maybe this will help.

Any help is much appreciated.

Henk,

I don't think it is an update. I had the problem so, just to see, i wiped my system and reinstalled Server 2003 Enterprise. I immediatelly had the same issue. I even did a clean virtual server on another machine, same thing. My only thoughts were DHCP, but.... other then a thought, I have no idea where to go.

Henk,

In your case it seems like GRE protocol is being blocked. I can see the error message in RASMAN.LOG. Can you enable the protocol if there is any firewall between the client and the server.

Thanks,

Anthony

Anthony,

Can you just try making a loopback connection? Is that successful? If it is can you collect the logs on client and server both this time. The steps are same. I see the Authentication request is getting timed out from client side.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hello,

Can you please provide me with the RAS logs so that we can establish what the issue is? For collecting logs please do the following:

1. Open a command prompt.

2. Type "netsh ras set tra * en"

3. Try making connection now. Let the error window show up.

4. Type "netsh ras set tra * dis"

5. Go to %windir%\tracing and copy all files and zip it and attach it.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hello Anthony,

I got the same problem. Is it possible that the problem came with a update of microsoft? I did a windows update and after a server restart, i got the same problem!

The log files are saved here: log

Hello.

I have all the same situation - Windows Server 2003 Std SP2, RRAS and enabled VPN...and  after  reboot -  internal interface is not available.

Than I used netsh command for tracing (like Anthony wrote). Here they are.

Do you have any decision other then reinstall all software? I will be very thankful for any answer.

Is there no problem with ISP?

My ISP tell me that the TCP packets going through their devices fine. So one no problims via internet flow.

Did anyone have the same?

Tuesday, March 17, 2009 11:42 AM

no I think there is no problem with the ISP. The RRAS Server don't answer on Port 1723 (pptp).
I also try it from local computer and that should also run.

Did you find some error messages in the Event log??
My Event log say nothing to me.

regards
Markus

EventLog is clear at time, when I trying to connect VPN

Only RRAS logs as posted above.

What do you do now??
I am not able to find a solution and start a restore now.

Tuesday, March 17, 2009 5:29 PM

In my case there are first and only one SBS server in my client, and I cann`t make reinstall or restore operations.

But if i did not find the answer, I should reinstall the server/
