Verify full path - full path can't exceed 260 characters, so if you have file, for example "Some document.docx" which is 19 characters and this file was copied to path with 250 characters - probably You will recieve this message.

You should have shorter name of subfolders to do anything with this file - just rename folders on the path with shorter names.

Hello,

You can perform the registry manipulation mentioned here to bypass 260 character limit for file name:

Hi,

Go one folder above where your document is stored. Rename that folder to something shorter (ex. name it one ). This should allow you to open the Word document now. Now change the Word file to a shorter name. Change the folder back to the original name. Check if you can still open your Word file. If you can still open the file, then you’re good! If you can’t open the file yet, move the folder to another location.

If you want to keep the file name of the document and the folder the same you should store the Word file in another location perhaps to your desktop or make a separate folder for the file.

About changing file path limited through registry, according to my know, the one caveat is this may cause some compatibility problems with older 32-bit applications. If you don’t use anymore 32-bit software or simply have a strong need for very long file paths, we could try this measure suggested by Kapil.

Bests,

Hi,

This happened to me a couple of times . and there are many ways. I usually do the following  and they seem to work. Some are too time consuming ways. So you must decide which one to choose.

1) try opening the file. Once it opens, use "Save As" to save it with  a shorter name.

2) if the file doesn't open  after double clicking on it,then select the option," Edit with Adobe" if you're using adobe. Then again you following the method 1 of saving it with a new  shorter name.

3) Note that " simple trying to rename the file to a shorter name "will not help in any way.

4)    Simply cut the complete folder and  past it to a new location ( the fastest way). All files will work fine!. In some cases this works. Try your luck too.

1. You can buy some tools available or

2. Try renaming the folder to shorter version.

Total file path with the name should not exceed 260 characters.

I have re-named the folders and worked for me.
