Windows 10 not sharing printer with XP computer on peer to peer network

Question

Thursday, August 20, 2015 6:39 AM

Hi, I upgraded my desktop computer on the weekend (Aug 8-9) and have had the same problem as above. My partner's XP computer, which used to be able to use the Kyocera laser shared by my desktop, can't find or use this printer. The printer worked previously with the XP machine when the desktop was running Window's 8.1. When I try to install a new printer on the XP machine I get the same dialogue box as mentioned above asking for a user (only one listed on the dropdown and that's me) and password. When I enter a password I get the message: "The credentials supplied are not sufficient to access this printer." I realise that there must be a lot of incompatibilities with such a massive upgrade. I would much appreciate it if anyone has a solution. Funny thing was that the printer still worked just after the upgrade. I expect one of the subsequent updates has disabled this ability. Cheers Warren

WarrenSalomon,

Please first check if XP can see Windows 10 in your Network.

Make sure to re-share your printer and then Turn off password protection in Network sharing center on Windows 10 as below:

If the issue still persists, please try to uninstall the recent updates under Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs -> view installed updates -> Highlight the update and click Uninstall to check the results.

Also, if the System restore is turned on, you can restore your system back to check the results.

Hello,

try to add remote printer on XP machine via installing remote shared Win10 printer as local printer on XP machine connected thru local port: \yourWin10machine\sharedPrinter.

Hi Vojta

Thanks very much. I have installed the printer on the XP machine through a local port as you suggested. It now works fine.

Hi Vojta,

I followed your directions and I could install a printer shared from a WIN 10 to a XP machine.

the way is to install as local printer on XP and direct to a WIN 10 machine as you said.

It´s good if in this installation you use a manufacturer driver from CD. After installed, is good to setup the printer to match fonts, paper size, columns and other atributes to work well with XP.

Thank you so much for your help.

Carlos
