What is WINDOWS/system32/newdev.exe?

Question

Thursday, January 12, 2017 6:24 PM

At every bootup I get a message from "Security and Maintenance" stating "Finish installing device software". After a little investigation I kept finding discussions typically related to Windows XP & 7 and in all discussions the file "WINDOWS/system32/newdev.exe" was present. After checking this file my suspicions about it increased but I found nothing related to Windows 10. Before I proceed with installation or not perhaps someone familiar with this issue can guide me away from problems and/or harm.

Hi ,

Here is a link for your reference. When you click on the "Finish installing device software" message, open the file "C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev" using Notepad. It should tell you which driver was last updated using the "Finish-Install" action and thus which driver is causing this.
