Cannot delete user from sharepoint group

How can I remove a user from a sharepoint group?

I don't have the remove user from group option in the Actions menu. Do I have to be a group owner to remove? Or have certain group permission to remove a user?

You need to be a site owner to do this. Precisely, the SharePoint group you are member of should have 'full control' permission level. If its on a custom permission level, this option should be checked to manage permissions:

Hi,

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to remove users from your SharePoint group.

As Mohit already mentioned, a site collection administrator or a site owner has access to achieve it.

Another workaround, you can change your group permission level to let users in this group has access to the “People and group” settings page and perform add or remove action in a group.

1. Go into the Site Settings page, click Site permissions in the User and permissions section.

2. In the Manage section of the ribbon, click Permission Levels.

3. In the list of permission levels, click the permission level your group assigned.

4. Check “Manage Permissions” permission in the Site Permissions section, and then click submit.

If your group owner specify only group owner has permission to add or remove members from the group, the other members in this group can’t edit the membership of the group. You can change it on the Change Group Settings page.

1. Go back to Site Settings page, click People and groups in the User and permissions section.

2. Click Groups on the quick launch bar, and then click your group.

3.  Click Setting >> Group Settings.

4. In Group Settings section, you can specify who can view and edit the membership of this group.

4.1 In the “Who can edit the membership of the group” option, if you select “Group Owner” , the group members except group owners in this Group  will not see the “remove user from group” option in the Actions menu and “Add users” option in the New menu.

4.2 If you select “Group Members”, all group members include the group owners will have access to add and remove users from the group.
