OVA on Azure? Is it possible?

Question

Monday, February 29, 2016 2:20 PM

I have an OVA file and love Azure, but cannot find a way to install an OVA under a hypervisor instance.  Because of this I am being forced to run my business on Rackspace, which although interesting and possible, I would much rather keep everything on Azure.

If I am missing something and this is possible to do - without some weird conversion of the OVA to some other file format - please let me know!!! If it is not possible - that would be great to know as well!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

OVA file is ideally not supported with azure and you might need to convert it.

You could check if the following discussion helps:

As of 2019 Azure still fails to import OVA files. This concludes our trial of the platform. Get back to us when you have this functionality up and running, so we can consider your offer once again.

Currently, the way to achieve this is by conversion of OVA to a different file format supported by Azure. Please refer to the following thread:

As OVA is essentially a tar file holding the VMDK File and OVF (Configuration File), you can use the Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter (MVMC) includes the Microsoft Virtual Disk Converter tool (MVDC.exe) that converts a VMDK file to a VHD file:
