Network Teaming or VLAN Tagging in Windows 10

Question

Thursday, June 30, 2016 5:16 AM

Why there is no Network Teaming or VLAN Tagging in Windows 10 Pro.

When we will get the fix from Microsoft? We tried doing VLAN Tagging or the NIC Teaming on Broadcom and Intel NIC with latest software but of no luck.

We need this fix ASAP.

Hi Atique,

Yes, this is a known problem at Intel and Microsoft. With 1511 update to Windows 10, Microsoft removed support for Intel ANS teams and VLANs, you have found out this point.

Intel also says it is working with Microsoft to remedy the problem, but there is no progress appears now, what we can do is just waiting for a hotfix or update.

The most recent information from Intel is that the controller on the NIC (Intel 82576EB) "does not pass the Microsoft WHQL certifications required for a full featured driver from Intel". So people who had link aggregation before 1511 are stuck with a basic driver that does not support teaming.

Intel has been updating a thread about this on their forums

I211/I217-V Windows 10 LACP teaming fails

https://communities.intel.com/thread/77934?start=0&tstart=0

Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.

if you are not willing to wait for Intel or Microsoft to solve this Windows 10 compatibility problem, the only immediate solution I can see is downgrading back to previous Windows version such as Windows 7.

Regards

From my perspective, Microsoft broke this. It seems to be a pattern with Windows 10 ... maybe you should've called it Windows When?
Add to my gripes the dropping of Windows Media Center after some dummies pushed DRM on us in the first place, that this teaming issue has hit more than Intel, etc. Hell, even my Intel RST controller worked fine until Windows 10 - now it's a train-wreck, literally destroying irreplacable data (my mistake because I had just donated my mirror machine days before).
I'm a hair's breadth away from going back to Windows 8.1 long enough to learn unix better before support for Win8.1 completely goes away. Windows 10 is worse junk than Vista. New features? Wonderful, but finish what's on your plate before moving on to the next meal.

Yes, no option I have gone back to Windows 7.

Any chance Windows 10 support this in near future?

Thanks,

Atique.

At the rate things are going I think it would be more likely that Microsoft would add X and GNOME** **than give us back this feature even on the Enterprise editions.

It has been answered. NIC teaming does not work in Windows 10.

It did not work in 2016 when the original post came in. Things have not changed.
