Question

Without warning or apparent reason my copy of VB 2010 Express, that I have been using for years, is demanding I supply a registration key. Uncharacteristically I seem to have failed to keep a copy of the key! However the pop-up demanding the key also gives an option to “Obtain a registration key online” and selecting this option drops one through to an online form. I’ve completed the form several times in the hope of getting a better answer when selecting “Continue” at the end of the form but on each occasion I’ve been presented with the message “We are sorry, the page you have requested cannot be found.”. Not very informative, not very helpful and really rather frustrating. Can somebody please tell me where and how I either:- A.) Get an acceptable registration key. B.) Supply me with a URL where I can successfully complete the form that doesn’t dump me into a page that no longer exists. C.) Provide me with a working key.
I apologise for dumping this here but I cannot find anywhere else to ask such a question. The MS virtual assistant really could not get what I was driving at and kept going off in unhelpful directions!

Hi Tony,
Welcome to the MSDN forum.
Actually, MS has no longer offering a maintain support for VS 2010 Express, because it’s too old to compatible more new features for users to use. Currently, we have released a number of new released version with more new features and higher stability and usability that will give you a better experience.
Thus, I would recommend you consider to install the recently version like VS 2017 community or VS2019 RC community. Meanwhile, it is also free and has many of the features of the full product and allows for use of third-party extensions (which is what gives VS its power). Additionally, community edition comes with support for C#, VB and web development.
You just need to check if you meet the requirement of freely use or not , please check the MICROSOFT SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS. Then follow this Docs: /en-us/visualstudio/ide/signing-in-to-visual-studio?view=vs-2017 to sign in your account for unlock VS community.
If my suggestion is helpful, don’t forget give me a feedback and mark it as answer please.
Thank you for your understanding and have a nice day J!
Sincerely,
May

Thank you for responding.
All is well although the URL is no longer functional the code behind it still works and I received an email (well several actually) supplying me with a functional registration key (All the emails returned the same key!! which I find reassuring).
Again thank you for the advice in the response but I only tinker with problems I come across and at my age I am not eager to start digging any deeper.

Hi Tony,
Glad to hear you in time.
Yes, although MS have no longer maintain VS 2010 express version and the registry web is invalid theoretically, but we have also tried to open it in many times with different browser, it will show the registration info and receive the product key randomly. so we would not offer this workaround as a priority one. Therefore, please understand that I did not directly give this solution but suggested that you download the latest version of the product. J
Anyway, I see you resolved this issue via the originally workaround. Could please mark your workaround as this issue answer? then I will help you close this issue, after that, our discussion and the result would be shown in forum and some members who not interesting to other VS versions could get some reference. :)
Have a wonderful day
