At least one of my alpha keys is behaving as if it is the "enter" key. The worst part is--That letter is part of my password, so when I turn my laptop on, I am unable to sign in. At the Windows sign-in screen, when I get to that letter in my password, it sends it and says that I have the wrong password. Whatever fix you suggest, please keep in mind that I am not even able to log onto my laptop.
It is an HP computer with Windows 10.

Hi,
Update your Windows to the latest through Windows Update.
Try to perform a full scan on your computer with Windows Defender.
Unplug any external device such as USB flash drive or Printer.
Boot your computer in a clean boot environment with the good keyboard.
Disable your antivirus software temporarily.
Then switch the keyboard to your error keyboard for a test. Don’t forget to test the on-screen keyboard.
If the issue persists, please check if there are any error codes recorded in the Event Viewer(Windows Logs\Applications, System)?
Bests,
Joy.

As a first work-around try the onscreen keyboard to login. At the login prompt click the accessibility icon towards bottom right (looks like clock at 3 o'clock to me). Turn on the onscreen keyboard and try using that to login.

Hi,
Did you perform any action before the issue occur?
We could try to login Windows with on-screen keyboard.
After you typed all letters of your password, please check them by pressing “eye” icon.
If the issue persists, restart your device and try to login Windows with another account.
Once you login Windows, open notepad to check if the alpha key always function as a “enter” key.
Best regards,
Joy.

The On-Screen Keyboard did not work. It was doing the same as the keys. What does work is to plug in a separate keyboard into the usb laptop socket.
I pulled up Notepad to check what several of the keys are doing. Here are some examples:
; types ;l
9 types 091
0 types 09
= makes Airplane Mode go on or off
l types ;l.3m
o types po
/ types /.
. types /.52
) types )(
: types :L
{ types { and brings up menu to undo, cut, copy, etc.
These are just some examples.
If this helps, when I bring up "Start", some of the items have a line under them.
I also did a reset of my laptop, lost most of my files, and the keys are still acting that way.
