Office 2019 Disable Share button

Question

Tuesday, March 3, 2020 2:48 PM

In the past I've used a GPO to disable the Share feature / button in Office 2019

Disable Items in User Interface  .... command bar ID 26594

This does not appear to be working with Office 2019

Also, is there a way to hide the user/login information for the user account information in office (during both office startup/ welcome screen and on the ribbon bar)

Hi Steve,

Q1: What version and version number of Office 2019 are you using now? Do you mean the "Share Button" at the top right of Ribbon in Word is still optional after disable 26594?

If yes, maybe you could try to update Office to the latest version, meanwhile make sure you have used the latest version of Office Administrative Template files

I test on my environment, Office Professional Plus 2019 (Version 1808, Build 10356.20006 ) and Windows 10, entering 26594 as command bar ID to disable for Word and it works, the "Share Button" at the top right of Ribbon greys out.

Q2: For volume licensed versions of Office 2019, they could be activated via MAK, KMS instead of licensed account. You may try to block the accounts signed into Office via GPO.

Please go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Office 2016 > Miscellaneous > Please find the option "Block signing into Office" > Enable it and select "None allowed".

When you go to File > Account, there is just the Office Theme option under Account.

When users want to go to File > Share > Share with People > Save document to OneDrive folder, they could get an error message.

Besides, as the rule of forum, one thread just has one question, thanks for your understanding.

If you have any updates, please feel free to let me know.

Best Regards,

Emily

Office Professional Plus 2019

Version 1808 Build 10356.20006

I'll re-check the GPO and make sure the ADMX are up to date
