Question

Greetings!
I have a publishing site where I have given a small user group Edit permissions so that they may edit list and page content. These users are able to edit the appropriate list items, and can browse to a page in the Pages library and put the page into edit mode. They are able to edit the properties of web parts on the pages, but when it comes to editing the text content of Content Editor Web Parts, they are unable to do so. Selecting the CEWP part behaves normally, (selection checkbox, outline, etc.), but clicking inside the text editor portion is unresponsive.
I added a trusted user from this group to my "owners" group, thereby giving him Full Control permissions, and the issue has been corrected for him. However, this seems like a very heavy-handed and none-too-safe solution. Has anyone else encountered this behavior and perhaps found a safer solution?
Thanks!

Hi Eculver,
This one is slightly confusing but after a little testing and few searches I was able to replicate the issue you were encountering as well resolve it. There is a permission that needs to be activated for your Edit SharePoint group, it is the "Add and Customize Pages - Add, change, or delete HTML pages or Web Part Pages, and edit the Web site using a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible editor.". This permission can be added by following the steps below:
- In the upper right hand corner click the site settings gear.
- From the drop-down select Site Settings.
- Under Users and Permissions click Site Permissions.
- In the ribbon click Permission Levels.
- Click on the SharePoint Group you would like to edit in your case Edit.
- You could simply modify the default permission group or create a new one. I would suggest leaving the default alone and creating a new group.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Copy Permission Level.
- Give it a name. Something like "Edit - Content Editor" might make sense.
- Under the Site Permissions section check the box next to "Add and Customize Pages - Add, change, or delete HTML pages or Web Part Pages, and edit the Web site using a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible editor."
- Leave all other permissions the same and click Create.
- That's it!
The last thing you would need to do is assign this permission level to a new SharePoint group or directly to the user. If you run into any issues I would be happy to assist!
