Hi All,
I have never used the "Reset to site definition" option on the Site Settings page, but wanted to see what it does by using a quick demo. I have permission to create a Site Collection and Sub Sites.
Can someone please show me a step-by-step demo that demonstrates the "Reset to site definition" option so I can tick it off my list of things I understand in SharePoint.
Many Thanks,
Colin

Hi Colin,
Only the existing pages which are defined in the site definition can be reset to site definition, such as default.aspx, default list item form pages and default master pages.
If the page was not created by customizing an existing page, but instead was either created from a blank page or created in another program and then imported into the site, then the page has no association with the site definition, and therefore we cannot reset it to the site definition.
You can reset the pages to site definition in Site Settings or in SharePoint Designer.

Hello Colin,
Please check if you have a custom Site Definition first. When you are at page of creating a subsite, do you see a tab called custom? If no, you do not have a custom site definition and would not be able to demo of "Reset to Site Definition".
If you do have a custom site definition, create a site using that site definition, and then you need to check if you have custom pages/Lists created with that definition.
If you have a custom page, try editing the page in SharePoint Designer which makes the page "unghosted". Then click reset to site definition, and it will remove the changes you did from sharepoint designer.
Thanks,
Ved
