Installing Visual Studio 2015 on Windows Server 2008 R2

Question

Thursday, December 21, 2017 6:35 PM

I need to test and run software on Windows Server 2008 R2.   According to the documentation, Visual Studio should support this.  However, when I begin the setup, there is no place to specify the OS.  Then it TELLS me that I have "selected" Windows 8.1.   What do I need to do?

Thanks.

Linda

Hi Linda,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

Refer to: Visual Studio 2015 System Requirements , It requires at least Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Please download and install Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) , at the same time, please go to Windows Update to see whether there is the update to install, if there is, please install the update first. Since installing visual studio requires your windows updated to the latest.

Best Regards
