DHCP: Deleting a lease doesn't really delete it

Question

Wednesday, November 19, 2014 11:36 AM

Hi

I have two DHCP servers running on domain controllers on Windows Server 2012 R2. There is only one IPv4 scope and it set up in failover mode on the two servers. I want to delete a lease in order to convert it to a reservation with a different IP address, but deleting the lease doesn't have any effect. Refreshing the view shows the lease is back. I've deleted the lease on both servers and replicated the scope, but no effect.

I also tried the powershell commands, but results are the same. It is also not an isolated case, as I've since tried deleting different leases, but it doesn't work. There are no messages in the event log to indicate any problems.

Any ideas?

Hi Pierre,

I have tested this in my lab. When I delete the lease from the server, this lease will be removed on the partner server.

Have you installed any security software on the server? If yes, please disable them and try again.

Also, have you tried to reconcile the scope?

If it doesn't work, could you please try to recreate the failover cluster? Please backup the scope before recreate the failover cluster.

Best Regards.

Hi Steven

I agree, this used to work for me as well. There is no security software installed on the servers. I have reconciled the scopes, but it didn't help. I will recreate the scopes now and see if that helps.

I am a bit concerned that the DHCP servers do no seem to log any error events in the eventlog, even though it tells you to check the eventlog. I've checked under Application, System and the logs under Microsft\DHCP-Server.

Hi Pierre,

Does the recreation work for you?

I just want to confirm what is the current situation.

Please feel free to let us know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards.
