Question

From Christian Tippner @ChrisTippner via Twitter

Followed provided instructions to add RDP endpoints to a Linux VM through the Classic Azure Portal. Here: aka.ms/d881062

But the RDP connection is closing automatically after i'm logged in with xrdp. What is wrong?
Thanks,
@AzureSupport

Hi,

i create a virtual machine with Linux Ubuntu 15.10 in the classic azure portal from the catalog. I Added an user in the create dialog with an password authentication. Then i followed these steps from blogpost: http://blogs.technet.com/b/uktechnet/archive/2013/11/12/running-a-remote-desktop-on-a-windows-azure-linux-vm.aspx to add xrdp server to linux. I added an rdp endpoint to my vm.

When Linux was ready installed, i get the rap file from the azure classic portal. I opened it in my windows 10 and i get the login page from my xrdp server. When i typed my login and password in the input field i get a grey screen and an 'x' from my mouse in the remote screen.

Then the connection was canceled. The remote desktop window was closed.

I can retry it every time. It has the same result.

Hi Christian,

Thanks for posting here.

I tried to repro this issue and had similar issue after connecting to xrdp to my Ubuntu 15.10 Linux VM.

I also tried below commands on PUTTY to get the latest version of gnome desktop.

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop

 sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

but the above commands didn't help me either.

I think, the kernel version is not matching with the new version of Ubuntu Linux. I suggest you to change to previous version of kernel and then let us know if that helps.

I would involve our experts on this query and revert to you at the earliest.

Hi,

I tried an previous version of Ubuntu with the vm Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS from the azure compute catalog. I had the same problem to connect with xrdp. A grey screen is displayed after login to xrdp server. Then a view seconds ago the connection was canceled and the remote desktop window is closed.

Thanks for helping me

Hi,

I found an solution in this post:

It works only with the xfce desktop environment.

Thanks
