Live Migration Failed VMQ Active Event 1155

Question

Thursday, December 21, 2017 10:04 AM

Hi,

I have got two node cluster and I joined a new DC to my cluster but It failed live migration to second node with an error

"The pending move for the role 'DC' did not complete. Event 1155. When I check its status it has got VM NIC and VMQ Active

status on it. I can ping it access it  but unable to live migrate it. I have checked there is no snapshot or media in the drive.

It has got latest VM tools installed. Can anyone please advise where am I going wrong?

Thanks,

"I joined a new DC to my cluster".

Huh?  Domain controllers cannot be cluster members.  Or do you mean that you created a VM as a role on the cluster and that VM is running as a DC?

I never recommend having a domain controller VM as a clustered VM.  Always prefer to have DCs as non-HA VMs.  Never had an issue with that, but have had issues when trying to live migrate VMs that run the DC role.

1. All disks and configuration files are on CSV ?

2. Check in settings and in VM folder is snapthots are not present (for example if in settings disk don't have parrents)

3. Try to remove and recreate cluster resources of VM

Sorry Tim wrong wording.

Hi Lukasz,

I followed your instructions and there was no snapshot. I removed the vm from cluster and added again.

I tried to migrate the VM on 2nd node and failed with same error.

VMQ = Virtual Machine Queues. Are the NIC ports 10Gb or faster?

If not, then they're probably Broadcom based Gigabit NICs. Disable Virtual Machine Queues for _all_ Broadcom Gigabit NIC ports in both nodes.

Please post the results of the following into a CODE BLOCK (button in the editor and looks like this):

Get-NetAdapter

Hi Philip, It is 10 GB card. One mode got Broadcom and the other Qlogic. Does 10gb nic Chang anything on this issue?

Different NICs in each node could be the key.

Please post the outputs requested though add a | FL to the following:

Hi Jan,

There are other VMs and live migration work ok  but this one is newly added VM. So if it is ths switch or CPU all the other VMs would fail.

Hi,

Based on the experience, this phenomenon may happen if there were issues with the VM configuration file. Please first try to shutdown the problematic VM, and copy the VHD to another location, then build a new VM with the VHD of the problematic VM. Check if live migration could succeed.

Besides, also enable the following feature for the VM.
