Hi,
I did some research, but cannot find any details about changing the display name in the messages.
The display name is associate with the "From" field of the message header, and here is a similar thread for your reference, Create Transport Rule to Modify From or Reply-To Header.

Hi,
Does only the specified user need to change the display name when send message to the external user?
If there are several users need to change the display name, you can consider to change your display name to alias directly, then create a transport rule to add your original display name in the subject when you send messages to the internal mailboxes.
You can create the rule through EAC or the following cmdlet:
New-TransportRule -Name <rule name> -From <sender address> -SentToScope <InOrganization> -PrependSubject <SubjectPrefix>
Then the internal user will receive your message like this, the external users will not be noticed your original display name on the subject:

Although I don’t know if you have got expectations as you want. The following is a brief summary of this request so that others may get help from here.
Request
Change display name to alias or name only when user send messages to outside email.
Suggestions
In general, the display name could not only change for the message send to outbound through transport rule.
If you only have several specified users need to change display name, you can consider to change your display name to alias directly, then create a transport rule to add your original display name in the subject when you send messages to the internal mailboxes.
Create the rule through EAC or the following cmdlet:
