Unable to access iomega ix2-DL-200 NAS with Windows Explorer

Question

I am using Windows 10 ver 1803.

Previous to this issue I was using same OS ver but it was upgraded  from ver17xx and NAS access was fine.

Due to a software issue that caused a crash leaving me no choice but to reinstall as MS in the upgrade to 1803 had turned off Recovery. (I have issued another Feedback regarding this)

All other devices (2 of then Windows 10 ver 1803 PC's) can access the NAS.

So after the reinstall my NAS was unable to be accessed. Just get an error "Windows cannot access \IX2-DL-2" error code 0x80070035

After doing the recommended diagnostic it said "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"

I have turned on all SMB in "Turn Windows features on/off"

Also I can access the NAS with the browser and IP address and therefore ping it.

The issue seems to be associated with Windows Explorer and Security.

What has MS done to the network security?

We'll, with a bit of persistent searching I've managed to solve the issue.

Try:

https://www.schkerke.com/wps/2015/06/windows-10-unable-to-connect-to-samba-shares/

Basically the solution follows, but you'll need to use regedit:

add the new key HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters\AllowInsecureGuestAuth key, value set to 1

It's interesting to know one of my other computers that works doesn't have this key, but it has "AuditSmb1Access" which set to 0, which this computer doesn't have.  This computer has always been upgraded since Windows 7 and must contain keys that are a hangover from Windows 7.

This all means that all windows computers can have different keys and values dependent upon their original history.  So, I don't expect this solution to fix everyone's similar problem.  It will depend on your computers prior history. If it's a new install you'll definitely be okay.

Good luck

Allan
