How can I remove "How do you want to open this file?" in Windows 10?

Question

How can I remove "How do you want to open this file?" in Windows 10? This is a file that can't be opened with a program, so how can I remove this annoying pop-up. It pop ups whenever I dl the file via Chrome.

So answers like this will NOT help, since I don't want to selcet a default app/program;

"Settings > System > Default apps lets you choose apps to open files with. At the bottom of the list Choose default applications by file type gives further options"

Hello again Teemo Tang.

It turned out to be Chromes fault for that annoying pop-up. I downloaded the file on Firefox and it didn't pop up, so I went into Chrome Settings>Downloads and deleted the third option. Unfortunately I can't remember what it said but it did the trick. Sorry for any inconvenience my rather silly question may have caused. Just to clarify, it was indeed the normal Windows pop-up, but just initiated by downloading the file on Chrome.

Well what file extension?

What do you expect this file to do?

Hi,

Please refer to this case below.

How do you want to open this file?

https://superuser.com/questions/993375/how-do-you-want-to-open-this-file

I suggest to try group policy method firstly, if no help, use marked script method to see the result.

GPO: Do not show the 'new application installed' notification corresponding this registry value.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

NoNewAppAlert DWORD

0 = Enabled

1 = Disabled

What a absolute trash reply.

Irrelevant since I don't wan't to OPEN the damn thing with a program.

Also quite irrelevant, but I expect this file to do nothing.

If you're going to answer support question, refrain from being unhelpful and make sure you know what you're talking about. And yes there is a helpful answer below that included all the help I needed without asking the questions you did.

      When looking for the Registry location you describe there is no 'Explorer' under the Windows heading...are you sure you have the correct location iterated? I am looking at this location:
