Visual Studio 2013 error - "A task was canceled"

Question

Wednesday, December 4, 2013 8:39 PM

Hello,

I just upgraded to Visual Studio 2013 and a couple times now, I've tried to test a couple simple programs and keep getting the error "A task was canceled"

There is no error code and it does give feedback when there is something wrong with the code, but once i fix the bugs I still can not compile.

I'm sure I cant be the only one with this problem. I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Hi Ian421,

Would you mind letting us know more information about this issue? Which kind of apps are you developing? Do you mean that the apps were created in old VS version? If so, which VS version did you use before? We have to make sure the high Version supports this app created in old VS version.

To narrow this issue:

  1. Please run your apps in other VS2013 Environment, if it has the same issue, I’m afraid that it is not the VS IDE issue.
  2. Please clean and rebuild your app, and then check the Error list and Output window, maybe you could get more information.
  3. You could add the breakpoints in your app, and then debug your app one step by one step with Step Into, maybe you could get more information.

If still no help, you could share me a simple sample, I will debug it in my side.

If there's any concern, please feel free to let me know.

Best Regards,

I'm also having this problem.

A few minutes ago, my project would build, and now, any time I perform any build related task, it just says "A task was cancelled"

If I 'clean' it says the same thing. I can't give any more steps, there are no steps, just try and build, complains with unhelpful error.

Can one of the devs find in files for that message string and say what could possibly cause it?

I had same problem, and it happened after I changed the time-zone on my computer. So just restating the VS13 and rebuild again worked for me!

i am also facing the exact same issues. but changing the timezone doesn't help. I have tried to change my timezone in all possible combinations that i can think of with and without vstudio started or closed.

or may be i am missing the exact steps to change the timezone.

Cheers Manu
