Changing Autorecover file location using registry

Question

Tuesday, January 31, 2017 3:48 PM

Hi,

I''m trying to change the Autorecover file location (File > Options > Save) for our Office applications. For this I edited the registry keys to point to another folder.

I created a reg key on the following location:

HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Office\16.0\product]\Options\AUTOSAVE-PATH

The AUTOSAVE-PATH is a String Value. I tested it and for Word it works, however when I check Excel and Powerpoint, it won't update the autorecover location despite having the same key in the same location.

Anyone who can help me with the issue?

Hi,

Based on my test, please try the following registry key in Excel and PowerPoint respectively:

For Excel 2016:

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\office\16.0\excel\options
Value name: AutoRecoverPath
Value type: REG_EXPANG_SZ

For PowerPoint 2016:

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\office\16.0\PowerPoint\options
Value name: PathToAutoRecoveryInfo
Value type: REG_EXPANG_SZ

Please test it in your side.

Regards,

Winnie Liang

I tried both of them and the Excel one seems to be working fine with this reg key. The only one that doesn't change now is the Powerpoint one.

Any idea what other reg key I could try for PowerPoint?

I tested in my computer and there is no issue with PowerPoint registry key. If possible, could you please provide a screenshot about your Registry settings for PowerPoint?

As you can see it has the correct value, but when I check PowerPoint it still shows the default auto recover location.

Hi,

What's your detailed Office 2016 version?

In PowerPoint 2016, please click File > Account > About PowerPoint to collect the information. I double confirmed the setting, it works in my side:

In your side, please directly go to PowerPoint File > Options > Save, change the AutoRecover file location, then check the registry key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\office\16.0\PowerPoint\options.

Hi,

So I tried changing the value in Powerpoint itself and it does nothing, the moment I restart Powerpoint it reverts to the default path.

Also PPT version:
