OneNote Registry - ScreenClippingShortcutKey modification

Question

Thursday, September 22, 2016 8:22 PM

I am trying to change a Windows 10 computer, so the OneNote screen clipping shortcut key will work.  I am using regedit.  When I go to this path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\OtherThere is no "Other" at the end of the path, only goes to "Options". How do I add the DWord ScreenClippingShortcutKey setting when all the tutorials list the Dword entry in the "Other"? Please let me know if you need more detail. Thanks!

Hi,

If the \Other key doesn't exist, you can just manually create it. To do this, right click on \Options key and select New > Key, name the key Other.

Hope this helps.

I followed those steps and created a key called /Other, then I added a Dword - ScreenClippingShortcutKey with a value of 90 (Decimal).  I exited and restarted the computer.  The Windows-Shift-Z does not work, nor did just Windows-Z.  Any other suggestions?

Thank you for the update.

What version of OneNote are you using? The registry path is different is you are not using OneNote 2007 version.

If you are using OneNote 2010, the registry path should be:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\OneNote\Options\Other

If you are using OneNote 2013, the registry path should be:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OneNote\Options\Other

If you are using OneNote 2016, the registry path should be:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\OneNote\Options\Other

Thanks,

Steve Fan

It is OneNote 2010 and we are using this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\OneNote\Options\Other

I created the Dword ScreenClippingShortcutKey and set the value to 90 decimal.

I also opened OneNote 2010 and used Insert, Screen Clipping just to make sure it works from the program and it does but the shortcut key does not.

Thank you for the update.

Based on my testing, if we set the value of ScreenClippingShortcutKey to 90 decimal, the shortcut key should be changed to Windows key + Shift + Z.

Do you have the "Place OneNote icon in the notification area of the taskbar" option enabled under File > Options > Display in OneNote? You need to enabled this option to make the shortcut key working. If the option is enabled, you will see the  icon in system tray.

I am really baffled because that setting is already marked and I was using Windows+Shift+Z.  Just to let you know that I work at a school and I was able to get the shortcut key working on my computer but not three other staff members.  The only difference is that I am using OneNote 2013 and they are using OneNote 2010.  Any other suggestions?

Thank you for the update.

Have you tried repairing their Office installation and then test it again? For your convenience:

I did run the Office repair but that did not resolve the issue. Do you think it would do any good to reinstall Office?
