Sender name missing in email list

Question

Tuesday, September 27, 2016 8:12 AM

The problem can be seen in the image above. The emails which aren't yellow is missing the sender name. But as you can see when I click the email, it shows the senders name (Svein Stene) in the right column.

These emails are in a folder which is in an archive. The other emails is painted yellow is for privacy reasons and are fine (they show the senders name).

The user is using Outlook 2010 but I imported his archive to my own 2016 version of Office and still the same problem. This only exists within this archive and not in his exchange account as far as I can see.

I've ran the Outlook Repair Tool on the archive multiple times untill no errors where found. Still the same problem.

Do some of you have any experience with this problem?

Thanks anyways!

Best regards,

Simon Christiansen.

Problem still exists.

However, it made me notice that all of the mail affected by this problem seems to have been sent from the same sender (the one seen in the image).

Anyone else have some idea as to how I can resolve this?

Make Sure to check the Saved Contacts.. I hope the Sender name is saved without any names in the contact List

The missing sender name in the preview is also the name of the one who has this problem. The examples above is actually mails that he have sendt. I'm going to check the logs to see if the mails even got through.

Or Try Saving the Contact with Some name and Check if it showing up name..

I did try to save the sender as another contact. It Didn't work.

Also, before doing that, the sender was not present in either GAL or local contacts.

If that is what you meant in your posts. Maybe I've misunderstood?

Hi Simon,

I noticed that the issue only happened on an Archive PST file. Please confirm if this specific sender sends new message to your current Inbox folder, is the From field visible in email list?

Also move this problematic email to another default folder instead of your Archive PST file to confirm if the issue persists.

Regards,

Winnie Liang

This user uses this archive to organize all email. This means, if he has a project he's working on, he archives all related email (including the ones he sends himself) to a spesific folder in the archive. The problem only exists with mail he's sending out, that are also archived in this archive.

When moving the problematic mail to a regular exchange inbox, the problem still exists.

Also. Worth mentioning that I've tried changing view settings with no luck. As the "From" field is completely gone on these mails.

I've copied the archive to my own Outlook and the problem still exists.

ScanPST did not help.

I confirmed that the mails are getting through our mailservers.

I know I did not answer very clearly. Forgive me for that.

On Monday I will take this further with one of my colleagues. If I learn something then, I will share it here.
