Question

Our VMs do not show the VMSnapshot extension in the Azure portal. This causes an issue where on demand backup jobs will sporadically fail. Our scheduled backups still run successfully.
When we go to the extensions tab under a VM it will just says "Loading..." and never actually show the extension. If a VM has other extensions it will show those but still not the VMSnapshot. Have tried rebooting the VMs, removing the extension from Powershell and re-adding it, removing a VM from the backup schedule and adding it back in, and updating the backup agents, but the issue still remains.
Any ideas on how we can fix this issue?

Since the extension is not loading, you may check the below based on your OS:
For Windows guests:
Verify that the iaasvmprovider service is enabled and has a startup type of automatic. If the service is not configured in this way, enable it to determine whether the next backup succeeds.
For Linux guests:
The latest version of VMSnapshot for Linux (the extension used by Backup) is 1.0.91.0.
If the backup extension still fails to update or load, you can force the VMSnapshot extension to be reloaded by uninstalling the extension. The next backup attempt will reload the extension.
To uninstall the extension, do the following:
- Go to the Azure portal.
- Locate the VM that has backup problems.
- Click Settings.
- Click Extensions.
- Click Vmsnapshot Extension.
- Click Uninstall.
This procedure causes the extension to be reinstalled during the next backup

Hi Sapna,
And what's the proccedure when the extension doesn´t appear in the Azure Portal?
- Re-Launching the backup job don´t reinstall the Extension in my case.
- Rebooting the VM doesn´t solve the issue.
What else can we do?
Thank you.
