how to enter numbers in excel using microsoft speech?

Question

Thursday, April 18, 2019 3:31 PM

I'm trying to dictate numbers into Excel spreadsheet cells similar to the Youtube video eSTFRxtYFKI (sorry, Technet won't let me embed links); however, when I say a number, Excel highlights the row associated with that number instead of actually entering the number in the cell.  Instead, I'd like to do exactly what the gentleman in the video is doing.  I'm using Excel 2016 on Windows 10 PC.  Thoughts?

Hi,

Do you mean that you used the Windows Speech Recognition to enter numbers in Excel, but failed? Maybe you can check your setting of Windows 10 Speech Recognition.

For more options, type “Control Panel” in the search box on the taskbar, and select “Control Panel”. Then select “Ease of Access” > “Speech Recognition”.

For more details, review Use speech recognition

Can your Windows Speech Recognition identify other speech and execute successfully? For how to use Speech Recognition, review How to use Speech Recognition in Windows

You can also check whether your speech command is right, review Windows Speech Recognition commands. And you can test it in Word or Text.

If the issue still persists, please feel free let us know and I’m glad to help you.

Bella,

Yes, I'm using Windows Speech Recognition to try to dictate numbers into Excel spreadsheet cells.  I'm pretty experienced with Win Speech Recognition, and yes, it works fairly well for most normal dictation tasks.  I went to the Speech Recognition area in the Control Panel, but there does not seem to be any options or settings to change?

Thanks,

Gary

Hi,

Sorry for my delay reply.

I have tested the Windows 10 speech recognition and I can not to follow the operation in the video. Because this is more related to a function in Windows. We also recommend that you go to the Windows 10 General forum to ask. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/home?forum=win10itprogeneral

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Bella Wu
