Hyper-V VM not leasing IP's from the DHCP

Question

Tuesday, September 19, 2017 4:54 PM

Hyper-V VM not leasing IP's from the DHCP, we have one server subnet with a working DHCP offer (that was setup some years ago). So we added some new DHCP scoop, but it don't work. But the VM work if you set static IP from the DHCP IP-pool.

Is there some thing else to think of if you would like to use DHCP on a Hyper-V network?

Or some setup to check?

Hello SaiTech,

If you set the static IP in the VM, can the VM communicate with the physical computer or host on the network? If not, please make sure you have configured the external switch on the host correctly.

Additionally, please also verify that the DHCP server is working fine. Especially, please make sure the new added DHCP scope works as expected. You can connect a physical computer to the network, and to see if the computer can get IP address from the new IP Pool.

- The VM works with static IP-adress as expected.

Hi,

Please check the routers if DHCP relay configured to allow the DHCP messages as the the DHCP is having scopes for multiple subnets. Probably in your case DHCP relay has to be configured on the network device
