I cannot download Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 6

Question

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 6:16 PM

I cannot download Visual Studio 6.0 Visual Studio 6.0 from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa718364.aspx .
I tried both links under "Download the Full Version of Service Pack 6" without luck.

I tried with both FireFox 3.5.2 and Internet Explorer 8.

An attempt to download Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 5 also failed but 6 is the one I really want.

Hi Paul,

I've tried downloading the Service Pack 6 from the link you provide. It seems that Visual Studio 6.0 SP6 is not available on the official website. The link seems to be broken. You might try other website to download the Service Pack 6.

Sorry for inconvenience. Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Yichun Chen

Help, I need to work on an old project so I installed VS 6 and now I need to install the service packs. All the links I go to on the MS site are broken. Does anyone know when I can get the latest service pack for VS 6.0?

I can't seem to download the VS6 SP6 full setup file either. The link labeled "Full Version - Single Download" just directs me to the download page for "Merge Modules for Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual C++ 6.0". This file (msmenu.exe) appears to only contain the merge modules for the VC6 redistributable run-time DLLs, and does not contain the service pack itself.

This is frustrating me to no end, as I am currently experiencing this problem, which can apparently be fixed by installing SP6.

Is Microsoft intentionally making the full SP6 unavailable?

I've also been desperately trying to download SP6 and for some reason it seems like it's vanished from microsoft websites ... I've managed to find this page which links to a mirrored copy but not sure if it's the same file or has been tampered:

http://www.filewatcher.com/m/vs6sp6.exe.63799912.0.0.html

Do you know where to find the MD5 checksum of the authentic file to check the copy above?
