Question

This morning we noticed that 2 Pc's didn't get an IP address from DHCP.
When i looked i noticed the following:
1) Adapter seemed reset (Obtain address automatically was not selected)
2) When i changed that back to obtain address automatically, i see the adapter sending packets but doesn't get an aswer.
3) Flush Release, Renew doesn't do anything
4) Restart doesn't do anything
5) When i fill in a static address and gateway it worked like a charm.
So if you look at point 1, there where updates installed yesterday. We've noticed one time that the adapter settings where overwritten after a specific update. But then again changing it back obtain automatically, didn't solve the problem.
And initially i see no harm in the updates:
KB-4493473 OS build
KB-4091664 Intel core
KB-4503537 User profiles
I see no errors on the DHCP server and in the logs. And it's very strange that static works and DHCP doesn't. Because this eliminates adapter issues.
Did anyone notice these issues?

Are there free IPs in the DHCP Scope?
Have you checked the Event Viewer logs on the client computer?
Applications and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Dhcp-Client -> Microsoft-Windows-DHCP Client Events/Operational
Any errors there? Do you find the sent requests in it?
If the log's empty, right click it and select "Properties" and enable logging. Try to renew the DHCP again and entries should show up.

Hi,
Please run** ipconfig/all **and check if DHCP is enabled.
Meanwhile, I would suggest you disable/enable NICs or restart Pcs.
Best regards,
Travis

Many thanks Martin,
I think a stack update from 1803 caused problems, but it was not visible in the logs. After a service restart on the DHCP server systems automatically got their IP's back.

Many thanks for the reply Travis
I did the restart and disable/enable. Did, didn't work. At first DHCP was disabled at the system, i changed that too.
Seemed a stack update 1803 did interfere with the DHCP service althrough no strange issues in the log.
After a service reset it all worked again.
