Than you very much for your suggestion. I tried it but I cannot find any folder with the name "AppData" on my PC. I also tried all the suggestions from other users without any success.

To see the AppData folder please run File Explorer.  Click the View tab and tick Hidden items over to the right.  If you follow David's method Step 1:

will open a folder for you exactly where you need to place your excel file.

when you don't tell us which way to start an Excel file no longer works: how are we supposed to help?

Did you use a group policy with Logon script?
the "Run" Registry key?
The Startup start menu folder?

Were you using this method ? .............

STEP 1: Open the Startup folder

Right click at Start button > click Run > in the box, type shell:startup > OK.
Leave it there.

STEP 2 : Copy the file you want

File Explorer > scroll to the Excel file in question > right click at it > click Copy

STEP 3 : paste the file to the Startup folder

Back to the Startup folder ( step 1) > right click at an empty spot of the folder > click Paste.

That's it.

Restart computer. It might take a minute or 2 after restart, but the file will eventually open.

*** adding.........

Similar method can be used to include a program (not file) to Startup folder. Except that you will need to copy the shortcut of the program's exe file to the Startup folder.

Hi,

Have you tried the logon scrip or task scheduler triggered by logon event??

Have you tried this?

We could add the file to Windows startup folder and delete the file in Excel start up folder. And then, it'll open only once at system or window start up.

  • Your personal startup folder should be C:\Users\user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
  • The all user startup folder should be C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
