Question

I am using the Server Manager to add server roles and I do not see the Application Server role.  Was that removed or replaced by something else?

Hi,

According to my test, the application server role is removed for the technical preview.

http://micloud.azurewebsites.net/2014/10/01/windows-server-technical-preview-newremoved-windows-server-roles-and-features/

Application Server role is deprecated in windows server 2012r2, the Application Server role is deprecated and will eventually no longer be available as an installable server role. Instead, install individual features and roles separately.

Hello,

i think you might be confused about roles and features.

In Server 2012/2012R2 (i think you might be using) many things were renamed, so in the specific case of the aplications server, you can find the .net framework at server features selection screen.

Hope it's useful.

I am using the technical preview ... and I am basing my questions on my previous experience installing on 2012/2012R2.

There are a number of things that were previously under the Application Server role (2012/2012R2) that I need to enable.  Specifically ...

Role Services:

- Web Server IIS Support (which popups dialog to add a large number of required features)

- Windows Process Activation Service Support - Http Activation (which also popups a features dialog)

After getting these added, I then add .NET Framework 3.5 Features

- .NET Framework 3.5 (includes ...)

- HTTP Activation

If helpful, I can send you an Install Guide that describes these steps with screen shots from 2012/2012R2.

Thanks for your help!

Todd

Hi,

Is there any article which maps following roles with new component for window server 2016?

  • Distributed Transactions
  1. WS-Atomic Transactions
