Keyboard repeat speed doesn't reflect setting

Question

Sunday, August 12, 2018 8:21 AM

I got a new laptop the other week (Alienware 17 R5, although surprised if that info helps with my query).

There's a small, but surprisingly annoying issue I can't work out how to fix. I first noticed it when holding down the backspace key and realised how slow it was repeating.

In the keyboard settings, to my surprise, the Repeat Rate setting was already set all the way up to fast. If i moved it down, then back up to fast and clicked Apply, it would work - making repeats work quickly.

Trouble is, every time i reboot, it goes back to a really really slow repeat rate. But if you go into settings, it's on fast. And once again, moving the slider instantly makes it 'kick in' and work.

Anybody have any ideas/suggestions? It's surprising me just how annoying it is...

You could try to change this values by using the Registry Editor.

Click Start --> Run --> Type regedit and press Enter.

Navigate to the following location.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\Keyboard Response]

Here is a quite similar situation like you have.

Hrmmm. I searched quite a bit and hadn't found that. And it works. Thank you! Interesting issue. I wonder if there's a BIOS/hardware challenge. But perfect, that fixes it for me thanks so much!
