Link to VS 2010 SP1 (VS2010SP1dvd1.iso) is broken. Cannot Use Web installer.

The published link to VS2010 SP1 (VS2010SP1dvd1.iso) is broken.

We cannot use the Web installer, we need the ISO file.

...is broken.

Where can we now access this resource?

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

Currently, only the Web Installer of VS 2010 Sp1 is available on the website, the ISO link has grown stale.

You create an offline installer of it, please try the following steps:

1. download the VS 2010 Sp1 from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23691

2. Open CMD, Run the command as " <executable name> /layout

3. This will download all the files of VS 2010 Sp1.

For more interesting options, open a command window and run the installer with the /help switch. The layout switch is explained as:

/createlayout <full path> - Download all files and associated resources to the specified location. Perform no other action.

Note:

The prerequisite using this command is that you have already installed the VS 2010 on your machine

The createlayout switch will perform no action other than to download all the resources for installation; it will not attempt to install the service pack?

*** This is meant to update an installation of VS2010 (Isolated) Shell already installed on Windows Server 2008 with SP2. Will this perform as we wish? Will it create a truly universal SP1 installation utility?

For your question 1:

The /layout command allows you download full files from the Web installer, For example, the screenshot in my first reply only download files and folders of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 , not the VS 2010 itself.

For your question 2:

You are correct, the packages are SP update for your existed VS 2010, as an offline installer you want(similar as ISO, but more sufficient that ISO).

Using the /layout switch I receive the following error message...

Installation Requirements:

1.You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this operation for all users of this computer. Log on as an administrator and rerun Setup.

2.A compatible version of Visual Studio 2010 was not detected on the system. This update is designed for only the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.

The whole point to downloading the entire installation package for SP1 is to be able to take it and then use it on a workstation where there is a pre-existing VS2010 installation and where I do have sufficient permissions.

How to download a true standalone SP1 installation package!?

Please advise.

Hi JStrano,

Firstly, did you use administrator to log in your computer and run the command prompt?

The error shows the reason is pending on the privilege.

Secondly, as I mentioned before, the SP 1 /layout resource need a VS 2010 is already existed on your machine before, so that the SP1 offline install could continue.

Hi JStrano,

The link you offered is no longer available to download on website. On my side, when I try to open the VS 2010 ISO, also just give a 404 forbidden error.

But if you are an MSDN Subscriber, you could download it from:

Are you able to provide a link within the new portal??
