I have tried to clear the offline file cache a couple of times.

Basically for every file, the sync center results have the same error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

When I view offline files via sync center, I can see the folder structure and file name, but file size is 0 bytes.

Any errors from the event log?

Thanks for your reply. I have issue to upload an image to this box, but my error log is same as: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/20707e67-1fbd-4e13-8337-a8a9adb569cc/using-offline-files-within-windows-10-when-syncronising-i-get-the-error-the-process-cannot-access?forum=win10itprogeneral

Basically, for every file, there is warning with detail saying "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

Hi,

This may because the Oplocks is not enabled.

Have you tried the instructions in the link Thuyavan Ganesan offered? If not would you please have a try to see if this works?

Hi,

Do you mean that you've turned off your firewall and

  1. On client :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MRXSmb\Parameters\

OplocksDisabled REG_DWORD set to 0 to enable.

  1. On server:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

EnableOplocks REG_DWORD set to 1.

Regards,

Zoe

Thanks for your reply Zoe.

No, I didn't realize that I need to turn off the firewall. I'll give a try to that to turn off private network firewall.

Also, in my computer, I only have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\mrxsmb, there is no parameters, I assume registry is not case sensitive.

What do you refer to by "on server"? I do see that setting is 1 on my computer. Unless you are referring a remote server. To be clear, I'm trying to sync with a hard driver attached to a router.

Hi,

Would you please follow the instructions below:

  • Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
  • Right click to create a DWORD value and name it EnableOplocks
  • Double click the entry and set the value data to 1
  • Restart your computer to make the configurations take effect

Regards

Zoe

Hi,

I have done that. It's not working. I have also tried disabling firewall. Nothing works. There are many ask for help with the exact same problem online, but I have never a solution that solved the problem.

Hi,

No. The issue is still there, and I don't understand why.

And clearly I'm not the only one who has experienced this same issue, and I haven't not seen any satisfied resolution across the whole forum... sad!!! This is a main factor for me to get my Windows Professional upgrade, and it doesn't work!!!

Hello Zoe,

Maybe you can help me? I have the same exact problem. Config is:

Unraid server -> other pc's have no problem caching

2x2670 xeon desktop.

I tried all the steps reg entries etc. (Enableoplocks CLIENT side/reset offline files/etc)

Still no go.

I am quite sure nothing is using the files: i tried it with several different folders on the server, unfortanatly none work.

Some other things I can try?
