Changing a link attached to an Image removes the Image in Outlook

Question

Hello,

I have a user when using outlook 2013 she copies an image with a hyperlink from one email to another email.  She has no issues copying the image with the hyperlink from an email to a new email.  But, once the image with the hyperlink is copied to the new email she goes in to change the hyperlink.  When she does she loses the image, the image disappears and it is replaced with an error message. The error message states the following,

"The linked image cannot be displayed.  The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted.  Verify that the link points to the correct file and location."

We just migrated from O2007 to O365, the user stated she was able to copy the image in O2007 with the link and make the change to the link without issue on a new email message.  Currently her counterparts can make the change on their PCs without issue on their O365/2013 Outlook. All of their PCs are the same model and come from the same image.  Any suggestions on how to resolved this issue?

Thanks in Advance!

DC

Hi,

This problem occurs because the images are blocked. This occurs if there is incorrect data for the Cache value in the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Please try modifying the data for the Cache value in the registry to see if it helps.

Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. For added protection, back up the registrybefore you modify it.

1. Exit Outlook if it is running.

2. Start Registry Editor, locate and then select the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

3. Change the Cache value to the default value that is appropriate for your version of Windows.

Windows 8.1

Name: Cache
Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ
Data: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache

Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

Name: Cache
Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ
Data: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files

4. Exit Registry Editor.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Steve for the reply!  The user is using Win 7.  I verified that her data is the same as you have listed for Win 7 PCs.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks again!!
