i have a VMWARE test environment with 2 PCs and 3 servers one of which is an IPAM server, and one of the PCs was being used as a server administration machine with RSAT 2016 installed for DNS MMC, after installing IPAM on the designated server and managing it through the PC with administration tools things were going fine until the fall creators update a few days ago, after that the remote server administration has been going ok for the most part but when i try to manage the IPAM server it gives "install IP address management (IPAM) client to manage IP address management (IPAM) server", is there any fix to this problem other than reinstalling windows and stopping updates altogether?

Hi,
There is a new version of RAST. Please check the link below:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45520
Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 10 lets IT administrators manage Windows Server from a remote computer running the full release version of Windows 10. Use WS_1709 RSAT to manage Windows Server, version 1709, and use WS2016 RSAT for previous versions of Windows Server.
Best Regards,
Frank

i already am using these 2 versions, i started out using the 1709 version but switched over to the ws2016 as there is no DNS mmc support in the 1709 version, but still the same problem, is there any workaround other than disabling updates altogether?

Hi,
Please notice the additional information in the download page
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45520
Issue: DNS Tools missing
Impact: WS_1709 RSAT package users
Resolution: Use the WS2016 RSAT package or apply this workaround
Issue: Tabs missing from MMC Properties
Impact: Windows 10 clients before the Anniversary Update
Resolution: Update to the latest version of Windows 10 client and reinstall RSAT
DNS manager console missing for RSAT client on Windows 10 Version 1709
Hope it helps.
Best Regards,
Frank

again, my problem isn't that the DNS tools are missing, my problem is that whether i install the 1709 RSAT or the 2016 one they both work fine with IPAM until the windows 10 fall creators update, after which i can't access IPAM remotely and have to do it either at the IPAM server itself, at another server, or at a client that doesn't have the fall creators update.

Hi,
I didn't found any related known issues about it in Microsoft official documents. Also, I will continue to research and text in the future.
If we have any updates about this issue, we will keep you posted as soon as possible. Your kind understanding is appreciated.
Best Regards,
Frank

Hello,
I just wanted to report that we're also experiencing this issue.
We can run Server Manager and add the IPAM server to the pool, but it tells us the IPAM client is not installed. We cannot see RSAT via the Windows Features UI nor through the Get-WindowsOptionalFeature cmdlet.
It happens with both versions of the tools, and only on Win 10 build 1709. We also tried reinstalling an older version with no luck. Anyone running 1703 or earlier is fine with any version of the tools. The IPAM Server is 2016 Standard.
I did a decent amount of searching and haven't seen this reported anywhere else. I'd be surprised if it's specifically related to our environment, I'm just guessing the number of businesses using Windows IPAM and deploying Win10 1709 is relatively low.
If you get an update Frank I would be interested to know as well. I'll be checking in periodically.
Thanks

I wanted to add that we are also experiencing the same issue as Ahmed and others. Installing RSAT for WS2016 or RSAT for W10 1709 DOES NOT fix the issue. This is NOT the missing DNS issue.
The issue is when attempting to remotely manage WS2016 IPAM from Windows 10 1709, it says "Install IP Address management (IPAM) client to manage IP Address Management (IPAM) server". This component is obviously also missing or broken in the 1709 RSAT distribution.
Please help!
Thanks
Jason

I have the same problem with Windows Server 2016 IPAM and Windows 10 Client.
After Starting server Manger and selct IPAM i get the information on Quick Start
"Install IP Address Management (IPAM) Client to manage IP Address Management (IPAM) Server"
Tests done with 'WindowsTH-RSAT_WS2016-x64.msu' and 'WindowsTH-RSAT_WS_1709-x64.msu'

I can confirm this problem, and that there is no currently known solution.

I've got the same issue. The RSAT for Windows 10 1709 does not include the IPAM client, and there's no way to install it separately (like the Hyper-V Manager).
I had Windows 10 1603 and Server Manager worked perfectly.

Anyone have an idea when MS will fix this?
I can't reload a machine/vm to old build just because of IPAM client issue.

still not working even with WindowsTH-RSAT_WS_1803-x64.msu

I noticed on the RSAT download page under additional information the following issue:
Issue: IPAM in Server Manager prompts to install even though IPAM is already installed
Impact: IPAM users on Windows 10 1803/1709 (April 2018 Update/Fall Creators Update)
Resolution: Use IPAM from an RSAT package installed on Windows 10 1607 (Anniversary Update) or 1703 (Creators Update)
So it sounds like it is a known issue without an acceptable workaround. My workstations are all 1709 now and I'm not very interested in regressing.
