Mapped network drive icons are missing from "This PC" window

Question

Monday, September 30, 2019 7:32 PM

This is an issue with my office laptop and I use Windows 7 Professional version 1903 OS build 18362.239. Mapped Drive icons are missing in "This PC" window. However, mapped drive folders works from a shortcut saved in Desktop or taskbar! When I try to remap the drives, I can view the alphabets assigned to respective mapped drives! After remapping, it opens up the mapped folder but the icon is unavailable in "This PC" window. This happened soon after a reboot followed by Windows update. I work in IT and I've tried killing explorer and restarting explorer.exe service as suggested in some forums. Also, tried a solution from a forum that suggested me to use regedit to add some values. But the icons for mapped drives are not coming up in "This PC" window and in the left side panel where it lists the available drives. The same network folder icons are visible for every other PC in the office. Please help!

In Start Search type Gpedit.msc and hit the Enter Key.

Locate the following:

User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and File Explorer

In the right pane, double click/tap on Remove "Map Network Drive" and "Disconnect Network Drive" to edit it accordingly.

Hello,
Thank you for posting in our TechNet forum.

  1. Can we access the shared folder on this laptop?

  2. Do we apply Drive Maps through domain group policy? If so, because we configure the drive maps under User Configuration -> Preferences -> Windows Settings -> Drive Maps, we can check if the group policy is applied through running gpresult /h.

For user configuration:

  1. Logon one client with domain user account.

  2. Create a new folder in C drive named Folder.

  3. Open CMD, type gpresult /h C:\Folder\report.html and click Enter.

  4. Open report file to check the policies under User Configuration.

  5. We can check whether we can see this drive icon if we logon other domain machine with our domain user account?

Daisy Zhou
