Program Files (x86) Restrictions with Administrator

Question

Saturday, June 16, 2018 11:28 PM | 1 vote

After recently reformatting my Windows 10 computer, I created the only user account on the machine (an admin account) and brought my files over. I use a folder in Program Files (x86) for my files instead of Documents or Desktop. Before I reformatted my pc, adding folders/files to it, adding icons to folders, and saving to it all worked, but now I can't add icons to anything (I am now very lost in it) and can't save anything to it straight from my browser (I have to save them to my Desktop and copy it to the folder, even with a pop-up that I have to give administrator perms.)

    I have tried:

Owning the Program Files (x86) folder

Owning my folder in ^

Giving Administrators "Full Access" to the drive

(as with not being able to add icons) Refresh the icon cache

Disabling UAC

Hi!

You could try the following on the folder that you have created under the Program Files (X86):

1) Go to your folder under C:\Program Files(x86).

2) Right click your folder and click on Properties.

3) Click on the Security tab. Then click on Advanced.

4) Under Permissions, click on Change permissions.

5) Click on Add and then on Select a Principal.

6) Under "Enter the object name to select (examples)", type Everyone and press Ok.

7) Under Basic permissions, click on Full control and then select Ok.

8) Press Apply and Ok. In your folder's properties window, click on Edit.

9) Click on Add and then enter Everyone.

10) Select Everyone in the list and then select Full control and press Ok.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Leon

Sadly it looks as if MS have scuppered that solution. Now 'ADD' is greyed out in 5 whatever 'user' is selected.
