LAN Settings > Proxy Server setting keeps on being deleted after some time in Windows 10

Question

Hello,

I have a problem with the proxy server setting being deleted after some time of usage.

At first, setting up the proxy server IP address is not a problem.

I could connect to the VPN server and browse the web properly when the proxy server is set, and present (that's a weird thing to say).

But after some time, I will notice that my browser cannot connect to the proxy server anymore; and upon checking, the proxy server is deleted. It is unchecked and the IP address is now blank.

Environment:

Windows 10 with latest update

Browser used (these browsers use the same LAN settings > Proxy server):

MS Edge

Chrome

Opera

No problem with Firefox because it has its own proxy server setting.

Appreciate any advise. Thank you in advance.

Just FYI before I close this query.

I found out from another forum that this is actually caused by avast antivirus software deleting the proxy and not Windows update.

Hi NTRao,

Thank you for your reply.

I don't think this is the solution I am looking for.

To explain in more details the problem I encounter...

(Sorry, I'm a newbie who just joined the forum. I am not allowed to insert image and link in my reply until my account is verified(?)... anyway, I hope I could explain this well to you...)

In either case,

case 1) when LAN Settings > Proxy server is checked with IP address set. vpn client connected.

case 2) when LAN Settings > Proxy server is unchecked with IP address set (grayed out).

after browsing the web (tested) using MS Edge, Chrome, and/or Opera for a few minutes, and checking the LAN Setting > Proxy server setting, the LAN Settings somehow goes back to the default setting, i.e.,

Proxy server is unchecked and the IP address is empty.

Note that I have not done anything extraordinary.

Please be informed that I have VPN client installed as well but the phenomenon happens without even executing the VPN client.

I am using similar 6 units of Windows 10 laptops at work with the same configuration, and actually 2 laptops have the same problem. The other laptops do not have this problem.

I tried reinstalling the VPN client, and did Network reset (of Windows OS) but to no success.

Hello,

This is actually an awful bug shipped by latest windows updates. We have the same problem here. Windows 10 PCs lose the proxy configuration several times a day sometimes. I do hope that Microsoft is aware of such a serious bug in Windows, and that they will correct it quickly.

Hi Fred,

Thank you very much for that confirmation.

That make sense and it's awful.

I really hope Microsoft look into this soon. This is a serious bug.

Again, thank you.

I was able to resolve this by uninstalling diskeepper 2016
